FAQ on Tata Steel Pre-Finished Steel suitable for Flashings

What is pre-finished steel?

Pre-finished steel refers to sheet steel that has a protective finish applied during manufacturing. This finish enhances the steel’s durability, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic appeal, making it ideal for various applications, including flashings.

SEFAB hold large stocks of pre-finished steel in various colours, finishes and manufacturers, including TATA Steel. We stock the following TATA Steel pre-finished steel -Colorcoat® LG, Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra®, Colorcoat Prisma®, Colorcoat® PE15.

Can pre-finished steel flashings be customised to match a building’s colour scheme?

Yes, pre-finished steel flashings can be manufactured in a range of colours customised to match your building’s colour scheme. Manufacturers offer a wide range of colour options and finishes, ensuring that your flashings are both functional and visually appealing.

How does pre-finished steel perform in corrosive environments?

Pre-finished steel, particularly Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra, is designed to excel in corrosive environments. It provides superior corrosion resistance, making it an ideal choice for flashings, even in aggressive settings.

What is Colorcoat LG (Plastisol)?

Colorcoat LG (also known as plastisol) is a pre-finished steel product manufactured in the UK by TATA Steel, specifically designed for roof and wall cladding systems where reliable performance is required at a competitive price.

What are the key benefits of Colorcoat LG?

Colorcoat LG features a durable, abrasion-resistant 200μm topcoat with a leathergrain emboss.
The galvanised substrate provides good corrosion resistance and is backed by a high-performance reverse-side coating. It is available in approximately 20 popular colours.

How should Colorcoat LG be handled and maintained?

The plastisol finish is renowned for resistance to handling and foot traffic. Care should be taken to reduce the exposure of cut edges. Use welted edges, minimise end laps, apply a clear lacquer to site-cut edges and avoid standing water or debris, as this can lead to poultice corrosion.

What is the life expectancy of Colorcoat LG?

Colorcoat® LG comes with an external performance guarantee of up to 25 years made available through the cladding system manufacturer or distributor.

Guarantee periods are applicable to UK and Ireland and exclude individual domestic residential applications. See full terms and conditions for more information.

What is Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra coating?

Manufactured in the UK by Tata Steel, Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® is designed to withstand the most demanding and aggressive environments. Colorcoat HPS200® provides super durability and corrosion resistance.

What are the key benefits of Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra?

Unique to Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra, the Scintilla® emboss has been developed with a depth of only 50 microns, which makes it less likely to trap dirt than deeper leathergrain embosses, therefore making the pre-finished steel easier to clean whilst being more robust.

Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel comprises a number of layers, including a unique topcoat formulation (nominal 200 microns) which provides abrasion, chemical and UV resistance.

How should Colorcoat HPS200® Ultra be handled and maintained?

Renowned for resistance to handling and foot traffic. Care should be taken to reduce the exposure of cut edges. Use welted edges, minimise end laps, apply a clear lacquer to site-cut edges and avoid standing water or debris, as this can lead to poultice corrosion.

What is the life expectancy of Colorcoat HPS200® Ultra?

Application-specific warranties are available for non-standard cladding applications, i.e. flashings through the supply chain.

What is Colorcoat Prisma®?

Colorcoat Prisma® is a premium pre-finished steel material manufactured by TATA Steel, known for its exceptional colour range and durability due to its three-layer manufacturing process. It’s an excellent choice for flashings requiring aesthetic appeal and long-term performance.

What are the key benefits of Colorcoat Prisma®?

Colorcoat Prisma® utilises an optimised Galvalloy® metallic coating, consisting of 95% Zinc and 5% Aluminium, which provides superior corrosion protection compared to conventional Hot Dip Galv coatings.

Colorcoat Prisma has strong colour retention and utilises three-layer manufacturing technology: a 25-micron corrosion-resistant primer, a 25-micron coloured layer with polyamide beads and a 15-micron protective clear layer and is highly resistant to UV and chemicals.

How should Colorcoat Prisma® be handled and maintained?

Care should be taken to reduce the exposure of cut edges, using welted edges, minimising end laps and applying clear lacquer to site cut edges. Avoid standing water or debris, as this can lead to poultice corrosion.

What is the life expectancy of Colorcoat Prisma®?

Application-specific warranties are available for non-standard cladding applications, i.e. flashings through the supply chain.
